Rackham Revisited- Join us on a series of guided walks to explore the Ancient Woodlands of South East Essex
Join Southend's Tree Wardens on a series of guided walks, each lasting 2 to 3 hours. These walks are suitable for the whole family, with dogs welcome too.
These walks are in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Dr Oliver Rackham’s book ‘The Woods of South East Essex’.
By attending one of these walks, you will:
- Discover who Oliver Rackham was and why his work remains so influential
- Explore the hidden history of our ancient woodlands and understand their importance
- Find out which plants and animals make these woodlands their home
- Learn how these landscapes are managed today and what the future holds for some of our rarest and most diverse environments
Please note that there will be no facilities or refreshments provided during the walk, so please bring food and drinks and weather-appropriate clothing.
There is no charge for the walks, but if you do want to make a small donation (£5 pp suggested) this can be made via Crowdfunding For Good From JustGiving. All proceeds will be going to The Woodland Trust and Ancient Tree Forum.
Only 25 spaces are available for each walk, so make sure to sign up before spaces run out! To book your place or find out more, email treewardens@southend.gov.uk with how many people will be attending.
