2Imprezs
2Imprezs was a collaborative project led by Southend-on-Sea City Council and funded by the Interreg North Sea Region programme.
Working with schools across Southend, this project helped them become more energy efficient and resilient to the impacts of climate change by promoting behavioural change and installing technical energy-saving measures. As a result, cutting energy use and lowering CO₂ emissions as well as reducing energy bills.
Southend City Council led on the development of the 2Imprezs business model. This model enables schools to understand how they can finance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for their buildings.
We also supported schools to understand the importance and co-benefits of a more energy-efficient school in the long term. Not only does it benefit the planet, but it also enhances the learning environment for students too. For example, energy saving measures such as the installation of LED lighting not only saves energy but improves visibility and focus in classrooms, and a new boiler that conserves heat better means room temperature is more regulated, boosting the comfort and concentration of students.
Working with twenty primary schools across the City, they achieved a 30% reduction in energy use as a result of this project.
Energy savings were achieved not only because of the steps taken by staff, but with the support of students too. Many of the students also took action to reduce their energy use at school- for example, making sure lights and computer screens were turned off when not in use.
2Imprezs also supported an energy saving scheme agreed between the Council and schools. The scheme saw a series of energy-saving technologies delivered to the schools, including energy-efficient lighting and solar panels.
