Southend Climate Hub
The Southend Climate Hub was set up in 2022 to support Southend City Council’s target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
Located on the High Street in the Victoria Shopping Centre (next to IndiRock), the Hub provided Southend’s community with a welcoming space to learn, share ideas, and take climate action.
It aimed to bring together residents, businesses, schools, universities, charities, and faith groups across the city- encouraging everyone to work collectively to meet the challenges of the Climate Emergency Declaration, made in 2019.
At the Hub, visitors could find practical information, resources, and workshops on a wide range of topics, including:
- Waste reduction
- Plastics
- The natural environment
- Energy saving
- Grant funding for low-carbon technology
- Low-carbon living
- Sustainable solutions
It also hosted events and activities such as energy-advice drop-in sessions, eco-gardening workshops, and demonstrations on repair skills and home-energy reduction. The public was invited to take part in consultations, and experts delivered talks to share ideas and solutions to local climate issues. These photos from when the Hub was open provide insight into the range of events and activities that took place.
All these events were designed to help the community cut emissions, live more sustainably, and reduce their carbon footprint.
Although the Climate Hub has now closed as a physical space, the work carried out there helped raise awareness of climate issues locally and brought the community together in support of Southend’s climate goals.
