Mendip Community Garden is a welcoming community space in Westcliff, managed by the Mendip Community Garden Foundation (MCGF), which became a registered charity in 2024.

Working closely with local partners such as HARP, the garden provides an inclusive and accessible space where people can come together to grow food, enjoy nature and connect with others. The project aims to strengthen the local community, reduce social isolation, and support both physical and mental well-being through gardening and growing activities.

So far, volunteers have:

• Planted and grown a variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers, including potatoes, strawberries, grapes and seasonal blooms through planting and propagating activities.
• Enhanced the garden's natural environment, creating a peaceful green space for everyone to enjoy.
• Arranged sessions with local community groups and underrepresented groups to ensure the garden is welcoming and inclusive for all.
• Developed a learning space where people can gain practical horticultural knowledge alongside other life skills.

And there's much more to come! With the support of volunteers, the garden continues to grow and develop new projects for the community.

Get involved!

The team is always looking for new volunteers to help keep the garden thriving, no experience needed! Join like-minded people to learn new skills, spend time out in nature and meet new people- everyone is welcome. The group meets on a weekly basis, so why not drop in?

Sessions are held:

When: Every Friday morning
Time: 9am to 12pm
Where: Entrance to the garden is between 40 and 42 Dunster Ave, Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, Westcliff-on-Sea SS0 0HQ
