Projects in Southend have been given more than £5,000 by Veolia and Southend-on-Sea City Council to boost biodiversity, behaviour change and more
Nine projects were successful in their funding applications, with over £5,000 awarded among them.
This funding is part of Veolia's Sustainability Fund, which has provided thousands of pounds in support to not-for-profit organisations and community groups since its launch in 2021. The fund offers grants of up to £1,000, as well as staff volunteer time and resources, to help projects that improve local environments and communities.
Projects supported through the fund must aim to:
- Enhance biodiversity
- Promote sustainable waste behaviours, including reducing, reusing and recycling
- Protect and preserve natural resources and the environment
- Make use of recycled, reused or reclaimed materials
Successful projects awarded funding include the St Laurence Community Orchard with Trust Links, Garon Park Citizen Science initiatives, wellbeing gardens and allotments across several schools, and other community-led environmental projects.
