New funding from Great British Energy is now available to help communities develop renewable energy projects, cut emissions, and reduce energy costs.
Following the news article we shared earlier this summer, Great British Energy has announced that community organisations and local authorities can now access new funding to support local clean energy projects and help communities take greater control of their energy future.
A new £20 million Community Fund has opened for organisations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to develop and deliver community-owned renewable energy projects. Alongside this, a new £5 million Partnerships Grant will support collaborative projects between local authorities and community energy organisations.
The funding forms part of the Government’s Local Power Plan, which aims to invest up to £1 billion in local and community energy by 2030. The initiative is designed to help communities cut energy bills, reduce carbon emissions, strengthen local resilience, and ensure the financial benefits of renewable energy remain within local areas.
Projects could include solar installations on community buildings, community-owned wind turbines, and other locally-led renewable energy schemes. More information on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the Great British Energy website.
